Optimal bounds for correlations via semidefinite programming
Nonlocal boxes (NLBs) are devices that are used to generate correlated bits between two spatially separated parties. If the generated correlation is weak, it can sometimes be distilled into a stronger correlation by repeated applications of the nonlocal box. We initiate here a study of the distillation of correlations for nonlocal boxes that output quantum states rather than classical bits. We ...
متن کاملStructural Design via Semidefinite Programming
We consider a general problem of Structural Design and demonstrate that under mild assumptions it can be posed as a Semidefinite program. The approach in question allows for unified treatment of single-load/multi-load Truss and Shape design with and without obstacles, same as for obstacle-free robust Truss and Shape design. We present three equivalent Semidefinite formulations of the Structural...
متن کاملDesigning optimal quantum detectors via semidefinite programming
We consider the problem of designing an optimal quantum detector to minimize the probability of a detection error when distinguishing between a collection of quantum states, represented by a set of density operators. We show that the design of the optimal detector can be formulated as a semidefinite programming problem. Based on this formulation, we derive a set of necessary and sufficient cond...
متن کاملOrthogonal pulse shape design via semidefinite programming
In digital communications, orthogonal pulse shapes are often used to represent message symbols for transmission through a channel. The design of such pulse shapes is formulated as a convex semidefinite programming problem, from which a globally optimal pulse shape can be efficiently found using interior point methods. The formulation is used to design filters which achieve the minimal bandwidth...
متن کاملRobust Truss Topology Design via Semidefinite Programming
We present and motivate a new model of the truss topology design problem, where the rigidity of the resulting truss with respect both to given loading scenarios and small “occasional” loads is optimized. It is shown that the resulting optimization problem is a semidefinite program. We derive and analyze several equivalent reformulations of the problem and present illustrative numerical examples.
